IMMERSE: Experience the Future of Learning

How can complex content be presented in a way that is both understandable and engaging? IMMERSE demonstrates how Extended Reality (XR) and artificial intelligence are transforming education and knowledge transfer. Immersive learning environments allow users to experience scientific content in an interactive, spatial, and hands-on way.

How are immersive learning environments created? And how can XR technologies and artificial intelligence make complex information more understandable and interactive?

IMMERSE is developing new forms of immersive learning at the intersection of education, research, and technological innovation – not only to better explain complex information but also allowing to experience it spatially and interactively. The project is a joint initiative of the University of Zurich, the Zurich University of Teacher Education, and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, and is funded by the Zurich Universities’ Digitalization Initiative (DIZH).

At Scientifica, you’ll gain insights into current applications and research projects from the IMMERSE ecosystem. Various demonstrations will show how XR, AI, and digital technologies are creating new approaches to learning and interaction. For example, you’ll see how aspiring surgeons use a digital twin to experience an orthopedic procedure in 3D and then continue it in a simulation with haptic feedback.

Another demonstration by afca shows how AI and AR, with virtual conversation partners and immersive simulation environments, open up new possibilities for hands-on training and competency-based learning.

You’ll also learn how we use a smartphone camera to create 3D models of objects. In addition, VR headsets enable a virtual tour of the IMMERSE infrastructure and provide insights into the IMMERSE Theater, the IMMERSE Lab, and the Careum Auditorium.
